Some of you are asking yourself “Why would I do that”? There are several reasons that you may want to consider Ozone Disinfection instead of the current alternative that has been used for several years. I thought this would be a good discussion to have and one that has been making more of an appearance in several applications in the past few years.
First of all, think about the benefits as our friend. Not to mention, how many installers and service providers have customers that are actually installing the Chlorine tablets or liquid as often as needed, or worse yet. Not even doing this at all? Home owners and business may not understand the dangers of contamination that could occur. They won’t hug their toilet (Well not intentionally anyway) but they will roll around in the grass on their yard playing with the people that mean the most to them? This is that scary reality of not maintaining proper disinfection. Improper disinfection could and will carry viruses and bacteria when sprayed onto the yard.
That brings up a good point, and where I am going with this!
The benefits of Ozone Disinfection.
1. Ozone is not stored. Not onsite, not on your service trucks or in a warehouse.
2. Ozone is generated on site.
3. Ozone is 50 times stronger and 3000 times faster at killing viruses and bacteria than Chlorine.
4. Ozone is safe and has no ill side effects. Ozone reverts back to Oxygen. Chlorine leaves hazardous residual that should require dechlorination.
5. Ozone residual can be tested with simple Ozone test strips. Yes, this are similar to Chlorine test strips.
6. If you have residual then this means that you have disinfection occurring.
7. The consumption of electricity to generate Ozone is pennies a day.
8. Most importantly, the homeowner does not have to even touch their Aerobic Plant in any form.
9. We do not generate a high enough concentration of Ozone to do harm. (We will always recommend using caution when working with any form of disinfection). Everything in this world can hurt you if you do not handle it properly and are neglectful.
10. We have controls to alarm the unit if a fault occurs or if the Ozone generator has failed.
11. Minimal maintenance is required. We do recommend to change the lamp at least every 2 years.
12. Is the cost of Ozone higher than a bucket of tablets or a jug of liquid. Of course it is, but within time the cost of Ozone could actually be cheaper. Plus with the bucket or jug, if you do it correctly could and will cost more in the long run. And you or your customer will have to maintain their disinfection needs on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule.
13. You wouldn’t chew on a Chlorine tablet, and you shouldn’t purposely stick your head in a tank to check to see if you smell Ozone.
14. Ozone is safer to work with and handle. You just have to be aware of the hazards. If you smell Ozone it is not going to hurt you. Our concentration is not that strong. But consider safety as the most important factor. If you are working near where there is Ozone then shut the unit down while you are working. You can’t shut down Chlorine, use caution all the time at work. We and your family need you to make it home at the end of the day.
